“Crystal Miller will move you with the music that moves her. That's why, when you hear Crystal, you hear the combination of ALL of her musical experiences. When asked which genre of music she prefers, she'll tell you, "That's like asking a woman to choose one favorite pair of shoes--it's virtually impossible!!--different genres speak to me for different reasons"--like the memories of the R&B, Pop and Rock of her youth, to the stories and harmonies of Country and Bluegrass, to the impassioned lyrics and sensual, soul-affirming rhythms of the Latin music that she’s grown to love performing.

Combining those beats and rhythms with jazz sensibilities is Crystal's current passion. An alum of the Nashville Jazz Workshop, Crystal has also spent years honing her craft, singing at various venues and with various bands, such as the EZ Jazz Quartet, Diane King & Littlestone, Cliff Richmond, the Marcela Pinilla Pinilla Band, the Craig & MacGregor Band (Berkeley, CA), the Nashville Jazz Orchestra, and the Nashville Salsa Machine. Join one of Nashville’s favorite shows Wendy Burns Music’s Ladies of Jazz Show on Veteran’s Day Eve, the November edition features a theme of 1940’s USO tour, music of the 1940’s and beyond. Wendy Burns Music's LADIES OF JAZZ SHOW... "It's a Nashville Show to See". Featuring an exciting lineup of talent, Rudy’s Jazz Room's "Ladies of Jazz" showcase presents Nashville's favorite female vocalists collaborating together, displaying a variety of original and distinct vocal talent, backed by some of Nashville’s best and well known musicians. Harmonies of the Andrew sisters and jokes and just a gosh darn happy time. Come join us and see the show series that people are loving and talking about.

Wendy Burns
Nashville's 2022 Inducted member Academy of Local Musicians Hall of Fame and 2023 & 2024 Mississippi Music Foundations Best Female Jazz vocalists of the year.

Flute playing jazz vocalist Wendy Burns of Nashville TN has studied and performed songs from the 1940's Jazz Big Band era since the age of 9 years old. She has been described as having a unique voice that fits the era. She has performed at the Grand Ole Opry and has sessioned and performed with many of the Nashville classic country greats. With a deep passion for jazz standards, and as a hopeless romantic, Wendy believes there's beauty in staying true to the melodies as they were written. Her set list includes songs from the "Great American Songbook", jazz standards, and a number of her fabulous original pieces that reminisce of cherished jazz classics you've never heard. Wendy's influences are Judy Garland, Doris Day, Frank Sinatra, Tommy Dorsey, The Andrew Sisters, and Helen Forrest, to name a few. You will also hear some of her original tunes in vaudeville fashion featuring "Grover" her ukulele.

"She expertly delivers jazz vocals in traditional speakeasy style and displays her exceptional talent on flute as well. She does an excellent job, a true entertainer, she holds her audience and has them laughing with her patter between songs." - Gary Cobb, Nashville Tn

"When singing the classics, I’ve always tried to sing the melodies as close to the original version as possible. I feel you can get closest to the composer's feelings by doing that and by staying within it that realm. To think that someone in a time long ago did their best to put their feelings and words of love on a sheet of paper so that generations ahead would hear it just as it was written is a golden key to a door of a time before. Maybe I'm just a hopeless romantic and madly in love with the idea of living back in that time." - Wendy Burns

She attended Interlochen Arts Camp and then went on to graduate from the Academy. Next, she graduated with a B.F.A. in Acting with a Musical Theatre Emphasis from Wright State University and is a two-time recipient of the renowned Stephen Schwartz Scholarship awarded by The Human Race Theatre Company. She’s had countless performance adventures. Some credits include She Loves Me (Ilona Ritter), Funny Girl (Fanny Brice), Anything Goes (Reno Sweeney), Guys and Dolls (Miss Adelaide), Into the Woods (Witch), and Sunday in the Park with George. While living in wild NYC, she was a Task Rabbit, a personal shopper, personal assistant, and worked at Zuckerberg Media.

The best decision Mimi has ever made was to move to Nashville! Since moving here, she thankfully met the love of her life and married her husband Chandler, began working at one of the largest and oldest private corporations - Southwestern Family of Companies, and began singing at Woodmont Christian Church where she also co-directs the Cherub Choir. While most of Mimi’s background is in theatre, jazz and The American Songbook have always truly pulled at her heartstrings. She is so grateful to The Nashville Jazz Workshop for the opportunity to train and perform with Lori Mechem. Mimi is thrilled to be making her debut at Rudy’s Jazz Room. A big thank you to Wendy Burns for orchestrating The Ladies of Jazz Show!

Rebecca Carlson at Rudy's Jazz Room

Purchase tickets here.

Singer and songwriter Rebecca Carlson was born and raised in the small town of Milford, Iowa. Both her parents were music lovers. From an early age she was singing gospel with her entire family, and she credits this with instilling in her a great passion for music and a highly developed ear for harmony and melody. She also would lose herself in her father’s immense collection of vinyl LPs, where she got a ‘home-schooling’ like no other -everything from classic blues, jazz, rock, country and soul. She was influenced by vocalists Sarah Vaughan, Nina Simone, Linda Ronstadt and Karen Carpenter.

Rebecca was singing professionally while still in her teens, performing jazz and blues standards at local venues. At Waldorf College in Forest City IA, she studied voice and theater. This led to a stint in NYC where she performed in repertory theater and nightclubs.

In Tucson AZ, Rebecca’s powerhouse vocal style quickly established her as a high-profile and in-demand performer. For fifteen years she maintained a steady recording and touring schedule throughout the Southwestern US. She was a founding member of original blues acts The Jane Crowe Band and 22 Black, all the while maintaining her Jazz and Standards catalog at local nightclubs and theaters. Rebecca expanded her regional reputation and following considerably when she joined the ranks of Tucson’s heavyweights, recording and performing with the hi-energy Soul/R&B act The Socials as she continued to record and perform in Tucson.

Rebecca relocated to Los Angeles in 2019, intending to pursue and focus on her songwriting and her solo career. In LA Rebecca met award-winning guitarist/producer Doug Hamblin. Doug’s past work includes classic artists such as Stephen Stills, Johnny Rivers and ‘Southside Johnny’ Lyon. Rebecca and Doug began writing and recording and were immediately excited about the results. The sessions were very productive in a five-month collaboration they finished an album’s worth of all-new original material. The music covers a broad scope of classic American styles.

Upon her move to Nashville, Rebecca teamed up with coveted bassist Jimmy Sullivan to do what she does best. As a singer, Rebecca has developed a formidable turn of phrase -sometimes surreal, fanciful and wry, other times achingly intimate and heartfelt—all anchored by her knockout punch of a voice.

Sarah Jane Nelson was born in Little Rock, Arkansas and raised in Monroe, Louisiana. Her eclectic, early musical influences in country, jazz, blues, musical theater, rock, and gospel had one thing in common: storytelling through song. In a few years, she starred on Broadway and in the 1st National Tour of the Tony Award winning musical, SWING! and critics took notice.

“The show's knock-'em-dead singer is Sarah Jane Nelson, a sultry blonde who can zero in on the ache in a lyric.” - The Miami Herald
