About the artist:

Saxophonist, composer, and visual artist, Monica Shriver, leads a collaborative group of like-minded musicians on a musical journey through original compositions, arranged standards, and spontaneous improvisations. Featuring Matt Endahl on keys, Alec Newnam on bass, and Tim Buell on drums, Shriver’s quartet draws heavily on experimental and improvisatory musical forms and settings, and takes much inspiration from the work of groundbreaking artists such as Ornette Coleman, Alice Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders, and John Coltrane.

Monica released her first album, Acceptance, in July 2023 in conjunction with a national tour made possible with the support of the South Arts Jazz Road grant. The album was nominated by the National Industry of Music as 2024’s Best Jazz Album. Monica's second album, Unfolding, was released on April 30, 2024 and was made possible by the Chamber Music America Performance Plus Grant. Both albums feature Monica's original abstract paintings as the cover art. The Monica Shriver Quartet performed as a featured ensemble at the Alabama Women in Jazz Festival in 2023 and continues to perform at venues throughout the country.
